Situated between Manuel Antonio and Dominical lies Playa El Rey, a virtually untouched beach which is a fantastic surfing location – if you can find it! The waves here are best suited to experienced surfers as there are hazardous rocks which may pose a problem for the less experienced.
There is an exposed beach break here with reliable offshore winds coming from the east or north east and waves peak on the left and the right. The best swell direction here is from the south and surfing can be done on all tides.
There are no restaurants or hotels in the area and it is difficult to access. If you do manage to make it here you could experience some great surfing without any crowds. It is probably best not to go here alone due to the dangers it presents.
