Playa Agujas in Costa Rica provides surfers with a regional classic surf. There is a point break here which has a left peak and this all makes for extremely fun rides. The average ride can last for about 150 meters, but they can be as long as 300 meters on a really good day.
The swell direction comes from the west or the south west and the wind direction is usually easterly or north easterly. With waves that reach as high as eight feet at times, they are usually best ridden on a mid to high tide.

You will need a car or a 4×4 to get to Playa Agujas but it is fairly easy to locate. You can expect to find the crowds at a minimum at the weekends as well as during the week. A word of caution though – there are dangerous rocks here so it is advisable to take care.
