Playa Agujas in Costa Rica provides surfers with a regional classic surf. There is a point break here which has a left peak and this all makes for extremely fun rides. The average ride can last for about 100 meters, but they can be as long as 250 meters on a really good day.
The swell direction comes from the west or the south west and the wind direction is usually easterly or north easterly. It needs a plus 10 feet swell for this point to work. With waves that reach as high as eight feet at times, they are usually best ridden on a mid to high tide.
Playa Agujas is fairly easy to locate, it is about 20 kilometers north of Jaco beach. You can expect to find the crowds at a minimum at the weekends as well as during the week. A word of caution though – there are dangerous rocks here so it is advisable to take care.
