Playa Esterillos is located about five to ten kilometers south of Hermosa in the Puntarenas area of Costa Rica.  It is a beach which offers good wave quality for surfers with any level of expertise.  Many surfers come here to experience the beach breaks which provide fun rides for all.  The waves come in and peak at the right and the left and are normally between 50 and 150 meters in length.  On a good day you could expect waves to last as long as 300 meters.

Esterillos Costa Rica

Swell direction is south-west to south and the swell begins at under three feet but which can reach up to and over twelve feet in height.  Surfing is best on any tide which means it is a perfect location at any time.  For access to Esterillos, you will probably need to take a car from Playa Hermosa and head south on the main highway.  The beach is signposted so you shouldn’t get lost and it is relatively quiet here during the week and on the weekends.
