Located 40 kilometers from Jaco, Dominical is a perfect haven for surfers. It is specifically suited to experienced surfers and often sees surfers coming from all over the world to ride the waves here. The beach here is four kilometers in length and the small, quaint town has a small number of lodges, hotels and restaurants. Surrounded by a lush landscape, the area here is perfect for tourists. The climate is perfect with warm weather throughout the year and there are plenty of local seafood restaurants here for fish lovers.
For those who are not surfers, you can avail of other activities such as snorkeling, diving or kayaking but swimming is not advised due to the strong currents. The Nauyaca Waterfalls are nearby and it is possible to visit them on a horseback tour. There are plenty of other tours which the non surfer can avail of to keep amused such as visiting the Marino Ballena National Park, or the Cano Island.
Experienced surfers can enjoy the regional classic waves here and the beach break is perfect for showing off your skills. Fast, powerful hollow waves are the perfect mate for the experienced surfer. Waves are usually less than 50 meters in length but can last for about 150 meters on a good day. The swell here comes in from the north-west, west or south-west and the wind usually comes in from the south-east, east or north-east. With waves reaching heights of over ten feet this truly is a surfer’s paradise.
