Located on the southernmost tip of the Osa Peninsula, lies the little village of Cabo Matapalo.  It is a beautiful secluded area and is known as a fabulous surfing location.  For the experienced surfer, the swells here are excellent.

The fact that this is a totally private area means it is in perfect condition and it is one of the most exclusive areas in Costa Rica.  The hotels here offer all inclusive deals and it is definitely a popular choice for the wealthier folk out there.

Cabo Matapalo is quite close to the beautiful and popular Corcovado National park which has some of the most spectacular scenery in the country.  It is also near to Isla del Cano which houses some of the most fantastic marine life in Costa Rica.  For this reason, Cabo Matapalo is a popular destination for those wishing to see the fabulous sights that Costa Rica has to offer while staying in luxury accommodation.

Although quite difficult to reach, Cabo Matapalo has a fantastic long beach with three amazing world class, reef-rocky surf breaks.  The waves provide, fast, hollow, powerful ride which are usually around 150 meters in length.  On a good day however, they can last up to 300 meters.

The waves here can reach heights of up to and over ten feet.  It is a popular destination but should be visited during the dry season as you will find it extremely difficult to get to during the rainy season as you will have to cross three rivers to get here.  With the dangers of rips, undertows and rocks, this is one surfing spot which should be left to the experts.
