Situated just north of Puerto Caldera, 100 kilometers from San Jose, Boca Barranca offers every surfer world class waves with a left point break. The waves come in from the left and are fast and fun. Wave rides usually last from about 200-400 meters but sometimes they can last for up to 600 meters providing the second longest wave in Costa Rica.

These conditions make it one of the most popular surfing spots in Costa Rica so it is probably a good idea to arrive early before it gets too crowded. It is quite easy to access and very well signposted. You will most likely be able to see people surfing from the road as you arrive.

The swell direction here is Southerly and wind direction varies between North, East and North East. You could easily find waves here that are up to eight meters in height but it is best to surf these waters on a low of mid tide. This spot can be super crowded at the weekends so you should try to stick to early mornings or week days. It is advisable to shower off thoroughly once you have finished surfing as the water here can be very dirty.
